Citation Impact

Research published by the Marchand Institute is cited by other investigators in the medical literature. The citations below are references to our work in journals published by other groups. They are not Institute publications.

Cited in all three leading general medical journals

  • New England Journal of Medicine. Gorelick DA. Cannabis-Related Disorders and Toxic Effects. N Engl J Med. 2023;389(24):2267-2275.
  • JAMA. Hsu M, Shah A, Jordan A, Gold MS, Hill KP. Therapeutic Use of Cannabis and Cannabinoids: A Review. JAMA. 2026;335(4):345.
  • The BMJ. Solmi M, De Toffol M, Kim JY, et al. Balancing risks and benefits of cannabis use: umbrella review of meta-analyses of randomised controlled trials and observational studies. BMJ. 2023;382:e072348.

All three cite the same Institute paper: Marchand G, Masoud AT, Govindan M, et al. Birth outcomes of neonates exposed to marijuana in utero: a systematic review and meta-analysis. JAMA Network Open. 2022;5(1):e2145653.

Cited in national practice guidance

The Institute’s 2021 meta-analysis comparing salpingectomy with tubal ligation (Mills K, Marchand G, Sainz K, et al. Am J Obstet Gynecol. 2021;224(3):258-265.e4) was cited in the Canadian Medical Association Journal’s practice guidance on opportunistic salpingectomy for ovarian cancer risk reduction (CMAJ. 2024;196(22):E765). It appears there alongside Guideline No. 366 of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and ACOG Committee Opinion No. 774, as one of six supporting sources and the only systematic review or meta-analysis among them. The same paper is cited in Endocrine Reviews (2025;46(5):736-759) in guidance on contraceptive selection for the endocrine patient.
